To say that the last 2+ years have been a roller coaster ride for employers is an understatement. 2023 promises to bring more of the same. This session will explore the most pressing issues, including the never-ending saga of who is an independent contractor and the implications of incorrectly classifying an employee as an independent contractor. We will also explore developments in union organizing efforts, trends in harassment and discrimination claims, wage and hour enforcement, and the Opioid crisis.

Frederick J. Bissinger is Regional Managing Member of the Nashville, Tennessee office of the firm, which he joined in 1999. His law practice includes an emphasis in handling employment discrimination and wrongful discharge matters at both the administrative level and in Federal and State Court litigation. His practice also includes an emphasis on ADA and FMLA compliance, as well as general liability matters. Fred is currently serving his sixth consecutive term as the Legislative Chair for the Tennessee Society for Human Resource Management (2017-2023).

Ed has been practicing primarily in the area of employment law representing management since 1996. He is admitted in both Tennessee and Florida and Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Florida Bar. He represents clients before state and federal agencies, in state and federal court litigation, including any appeals, and provides guidance, policy assistance, and training to employers of all sizes. In addition, Ed has submitted amicus curiae briefs in the United States Supreme Court on issues of religious liberty and employment law. Ed also works with churches and religious institutions on a variety of legal issues, including child protection protocols.
